Top 5 Reasons Why We Should Give to Others
At Recognise and Reward we love what we do. We enjoy being able to help you give to others, reward your friends, family and clients for the happiness, joy and success they bring to you. Each day is so rewarding for us to see the amount of you that religiously acknowledge those special moments in your life and that we can be part of that.
All of this aside, have you ever noticed the feeling you get when you make someone’s day? Whether it be with a simple thank you, a smile, or perhaps a gift. Whatever it is, the importance of giving to others is tremendous.
#1 – Karma
It’s safe to say 99.9% of us have heard of the word Karma. The correct definition is in fact;
“The result of a person’s actions as well as the actions themselves. It is a term about the cycle of cause and effect. According to the theory of Karma, what happens to a person, happens because they caused it with their actions”. In layman’s terms it means, what goes around comes around.
Now, without giving you all a complex about all the bad things you may have said or done being the cause of all the bad days you’ve had, there is definitely truth in this. If you are kind to others, you reward them for the good they do nine times this will be returned to you in some way shape or form.
You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars, you don’t necessarily need to spend anything at all. Even the gift of your own time when someone needs it could be the simplest way to ensure what’s about to come your way is GOOD KARMA!
#2 – Benefits your brain
Would you believe that there are actual studies on how giving to others benefits your brain? It’s true. According to a study conducted in February 2016 by Tristen Inagaki and Naomi Eisenberger the benefits of giving were much greater than that of receiving.
On a neurobiological level, their results showed when you give and do something kind for others the specific brain regions associated with stress, reward, and caregiving are in fact stimulated positively.
#3 – Giving promotes longevity
We don’t want to bore you with our scientific facts again, but according to microgiving.com “The emotional effects of gift giving promote physiological changes in the body that significantly reduce stress and promote health”.
Take a look at what they found!
A healthy immune system as a result of altruism and gift giving means:
- Longer life expectancy
- Prevention of pre-mature aging (so you can give your pricey wrinkle cream away!)
- Healthier physical and emotional wellbeing
- And let’s not forget: better health insurance rates!
#4 It’s the Secret to happiness
There is a lovely Chinese saying: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”
We all strive to be happy, reading books “The Secret”, practicing yoga, meditating, eliminating the “negative energy” from our lives. We seem to be over complicating it. What if it really is that simple – GIVE, HELP and REWARD others. It doesn’t seem that hard does it?
#5 Because, it feels good!
It sounds obvious, but we had to throw it in there for lucky last because science and statistics aside. Giving and rewarding, just feels good.
Some of the happiest people I’ve seen in my life have close to nothing. They would quite literally give you the shirt of their back and they would do so, with a smile.
It just as St. Francis of Assisi said:
“It is in giving that we receive.”
Thanks for reading and we hope you too, will join us in the gracious act of giving and reward to everyone who crosses your path in lie.
